Blog post #7

This poem was a little bit hard to understand. I even had to find it in Spanish to make it more clear. In the play ''Raisin in the Sun''  each of the characters has a dream. A dream that is different from each other, but their dream has the same purpose. For example, the Dad wants to invest the insurance money and take their family ahead. Grandma wants to spend it in a house and other things to make the family happier and more comfortable. The daughter wants to use it to pay her Medicine school and then work for her family. So each of them has different dreams, but seeking family welfare. This poem talks about dreams. What I understood about the poem is that you don't achieve your dream, does it dies.? I think it relates to the play because at the beginning they struggle looking for what to do with the money. In what dream spend the money. So if they spend it in one dream, do the other dreams die? At the end of the play the manage to fairly divide the money and achieve the dream of every family member.
I think ''Raising in the Sun'' has a stronger ending because you see how many problems do they have to go trough and you realize how they manage to solve all this problems and literally you exhale and smile of how they figure out what to do with their life. This is very strong, achieving all their dreams and not leaving any behind.
I relate this picture with the plays because in both of them they go trough some racism issues. Marin Luther King Jr. was an activist in terms of this and because of his actions a lot of African-American families live happier.

Blog Post #6: Savages

In my group of the book club we decided to read Savages. I use to watch TV series that was about cartels and stuff, and I loved it. So, since this book is about cartels I liked a lot. Also, I liked the violence and the drama of this novel. For our reading process, we didn't scheduled the pages that we had to read, we just sit and talk. If somebody was behind, we tried to discuss wherever that person read. What I liked the best about book club is the different views that every person have about the books. When we discussed, I saw how different cultures have a different perception of what they read. The challenging part was to pick a theme for the Essay 3, because there are so many things to choose that you get confused. I don't think I would change something, I felt comfortable with all the process. If I ask you to do something different, I would say not to send us that amount of homework. But well, at the end of the semester you took off some homework and that was great. I chose this picture because is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think in the book.

Blog Post #3: Different Cultures

Since living in the United States for one year and a half, my views to Americans had change. However, I kept some views. For example, the reading have showed me that Americans care for kids education. They give emphases on public schools and they give opportunities to a lot of kids that needs education. Maybe they have exceptions, but they still having a great public system. In contrast, Venezuelan public education is going from bad to worse. Classrooms without desks, blackboards and teachers have a very low income and they usually don't go to class. If you want a good education in Venezuela you have to assist to a private schools, which are relatively much cheaper than private American schools. Although, what happen to those kids that don't have the resources to pay a good education?.
I will identify myself with the myths that South Americans have a lot of familiar interactions. We are socially ''collectivist'' that means we usually like to reach our goals in group and for the welfare of the family. In comparison, Americans are more ''individualism'' they usually reach their goals for self welfare.
With the picture above I try to show how important my family is for me and that even if we have a long distance between each other, we still having a very strong bond and I will stand and represent them wherever I am.

Blog Post #2: The Library

The library is a great place, it is very comfortable and it really makes you concentrate in your work. The physical area is great and is one of the reasons that makes you concentrate. The furniture is new and is well arrangement. They have a huge data base with all kind of information. The good part about the library is that you can submerge in your work and there is lack of distraction, is quiet and nobody disturbs you. However, I do not really like to study in that conditions. I like better to be in my room, maybe I waste time, but for me, there is nothing as your own desk.
For most people, library is the most boring place ever, but for others it's a place to work. This is the case of students who work in there, getting the name of librarians  They help you a lot with whatever question that you have, where to find a book or how to access and surf in the data base. The amount of information in one place is what surprise me about the library, is like to go to a place that every question can be answered. I do not like to study too much at the library, but I know that for some people is a great place.

Blog Post #1 Albert Einstein

When I read the chapter, the first thing that came to my mind is Albert Einstein. This picture relates to the reading because basically the reading explain how critical thinking works and how to use it. When I think on a person who use critically thinking this guy. He came with his theories because thinking critically about old theories or as the reading says: Myths. One of the tools that he used a lot was questioning (by question these myth), and questioning is one of the basics of critical thinking. The most useful part and the one that I like the most was reading was the Questioning: The Basis of Critical Thinking because is one of the tools for academic success and it will help me trough my college life.
